At our root we are all makers (just look at the sticky note responses by the 5th floor elevator this month). This week we will discuss the National Maker Movement and how to get plugged in to The Nation of Makers Conference (NOMCON) from participating in a community build project to exhibiting your project to fellow makers on a national level!

ABOUT NOMCON:

NOMCON will be held in Chattanooga June 14-16th. This two day working conference is designed to bring together the breadth of the national maker community (education, businesses, bio-labs, art studios, hands-on learning, non-profit organizations, economic development centers, light manufacturing, robotics and technology) towards the goals of:

*Building a strong Nation of Makers network between diverse organizations, industries, government entities and our members nationwide
*Generating robust, long-lasting collaborations, partnerships and projects that achieve more impact than any one organization could achieve on its own
*Maintaining and encouraging the growth of an inclusive Nation of Makers
*Maximizing both local and global impact through the passion, creativity and diversity of the maker community

Chattanooga was selected out of fourteen cities for its ability to foster an inclusive environment that encourages ideas, collaboration, creativity and innovation. The inaugural NOMCON in Santa Fe, NM, with its theme of “Intentional Inclusion” had over 400 leaders representing 269 distinct maker organizations from 41 states across the United States and two countries (Mexico and Canada) in attendance.
