Changing an electric fly swatter/catcher into a gas light "sparker"? That proved to be not so easy

VLOG. Changing an High Voltage electric fly swatter (Dutch: “vliegenmepper”, fly catcher) into a gas lighter with a High Voltage spark? IMPORTANT: finished the circuit today 28 may 2020 and found that even a very fierce spark made by this circuit was not (!) able to ignite the gas.....Strange but true....

That was not as easy as I had thought, because the (quite high, say 1500 V) High Voltage (static type) does not have enough energy to make “constant sparks” when the HV generator (1 transistor) is switched “on” (to 2 batteries of 1,5 V in series = 3 Volt).

Furthermore that HV generator consists of 1 HV coil, 2 diodes that double the voltage + one end capacitor charged to that High Voltage.

VERY important: not all metals/electrodes or (relay) contacts weld easily together on sparks, watch this:    • probing switch contact materials for ...  

The relay-contacts issue and all about relay contacts that weld good or bad together is a real science, go to the www. for more. Often special metals/alliages are used.

Anyway: in this video some info about the properties of high voltages, length of sparks related to the voltage, sharp (point..) and spheric (ball) electrodes and their properties in HV circuits, etc.

On 6.48 and 7.11 I say "globe" electrodes or "round" electrodes but I mean: an electrode that has the form of a ball. Charged is built up on that (electrically conductive) ball, electrons can flow (be pumped) to it, they cover the outside of the ball. Till the potential difference between the 2 balls is so high that we have a very fierce spark.

Regarding all my video’s: I constantly keep them actual, so the original video’s with the most recent information are always on YouTube. That is the source, and search there. When my video’s are reproduced or re-edited on other websites/channels you can not (!) be sure about the original content (=really working electronics with real properties for a purpose) and important adaptations to the circuits.

Be aware of that, I saw on the internet my circuits reproduced in a poor or not proper way.

I also found that people probably republish my circuits under phantasy names and/or with phantasy properties, attributing electronic properties to them that they were never made for, so phantasy properties. Sometimes they want to find gold with them. I take distance from all these fake claims; I cannot help that it happens, sorry. Upload 22 May 2020. Update 28 May 2020.
