Restoration Rusty Bayonet Knife - Is That Replica?
Hello folks! Today I will show you the restoration and modification of the bayonet knife. Presumably a replica of an English bayonet knife from the WW1. I bought it cheap, I wanted to know if I could make a reliable handle, where is the thread of the tang. Well, let's start restoring the knife.
The first duty was to clean the object with a rust remover, and by the way, to stop the acid process on the metal surface, you need to place the object in warm water with soda.
Next, I dried the bayonet and began cleaning its surface with sand.
The next step is processing the knife on a sanding machine. Redrawing the tip of the knife, false blade and bevels. Next, manual sanding of the blade and polishing.
The handle of the bayonet knife - here I had to come up with something of my own, I used a piece of mild steel for the base. With the help of welding welding, it was possible to welded reliably. After processing and cleaning the seam after welding, I began to form the shape of the handle. For this I used a gas burner, hammer and a sanding machine.
The material for the handle I used thick soft leather, beech wood and brass rivets. After gluing the handle, I processed it and started making a scabbard. It was funny and interesting - for the first time I used a deer horn for a scabbard. It turned out interesting. And of course at the end of the video I did a bayonet knife test.
