Western Pacific Tonguefish 👅🐟
Western Pacific tonguefish (Symphurus thermophilus) is currently the only known flatfish that inhabits hydrothermal vents. Despite their extremely volatile and harsh living environment, they are numerous and densely distributed. Their feeding habits vary across different seamounts. For example, at Nikko Seamount, these fish ambush slow-moving prey that come too close, primarily feeding on shrimp.
