It’s normal to have some anxious feelings in a stressful situation, but if anxiety doesn’t go away, happens really frequently, or is really strong, or if it stops you from doing things you want or need to do, it can become a problem and might mean you have an anxiety disorder. We don’t want to get rid of anxiety entirely – it can keep us safe in small doses. But we do want to make it manageable. Anxiety is treatable, and it doesn’t have to dictate your life forever.

Presenter:

Professor Caroline Donovan is a Clinical Psychologist within the School of Applied Psychology at Griffith University. Her research philosophy centres around a strong belief in early intervention and its ability to change the otherwise problematic trajectories of youth with mental health disorders. Her interests lie in youth anxiety, depression, sleep and body image issues, and her research focuses on examining the underlying mechanisms of these disorders as well as the efficacy of treatment strategies within a youth population.
