An easy way to create a vignette in Adobe After Effects is by using the effect "Exposure" and a mask.
First, make sure you have an adjustment layer above your other layers in the composition window because the "Exposure-effect" and the mask will effect the layers below that.
Then, you go to the window "Effects & Presets" and search for the effect "Exposure". Click and drag the one under "Color correction" to your adjustment layer.
Now, go down to your effect in the composition window and decrease the exposure to a value below 0, for example -2 so that everything looks slightly darker.
Now, we want to light up the middle of the composition back to 0 so you select the adjustment layer, go up to the toolbar, click and hold on the "Shape tool" and then click the ellipse symbol.
Now, when you double click on the ellipse, it will create an ellipse-shaped mask in your adjustment layer, perfectly centered and with the same width and height as your composition.
The last step is to invert this mask and then increase "Mask Feather" to a higher value. For example 500. Click the eye icon next to the Adjustment layer to toggle the effect on and off.
