READr: Building Trust Through Participation and Transparency
READr is an experimental news media project involving a few reporters, designers, and engineers based in Taipei. Together, they are exploring how to build trust in news through reader engagement and participation.
In 2019, the READr team joined the Google News Initiative’s Design Accelerator Program to better understand the needs of their audience. By applying the fundamentals of design-thinking, they discovered what motivates their audience is a desire to build a better future for Taiwan. With this insight, READr has developed a number of ways for users to contribute to news production as well as opened its data to the public—growing a digital community around common goals and values.
