My first job as a software developer was a nightmare, to be totally honest. There are a few reasons that were the case, and in this video, I'll go over them to show you that tech companies are not all as good and perfect as they appear.
If you are thinking of starting a career in tech as a developer, there can be moments when you don't feel good enough, and you postpone the start date. The moment you start to look for a job, you are not prepared, you are not sure. My first job experience as a developer taught me, and I hope it does that for you, too, that the level out there is way lower than we can imagine.
A production-level code is way more spaghettified than in your wildest dream. Your colleagues are not all geniuses coming out of Stanford and MIT, and your managers are not all business experts. Some, as in my first job, are actually quite a pain to bear. They are old-minded, disorganized, and not really keen on learning from any mistake. I have noticed a better attitude towards learning how to code and the whole tech-sphere, in junior developers than in seniors and managers there.
The world is moving forward, technologies are born every day and new ideas are ordinary nowadays, just go with it. In my first job, there was nothing that was even remotely uplifting, learning, motivating, or up-to-date. It all felt old and I ended up quitting after 6 months because let's face it, I as a junior developer, could write and organize my code better than them.
