FF7R Chapter 1: The Destruction of Mako Reactor 1

The game opens with Cloud Strife, a character known for his strength and his iconic buster sword. Your initial battle against security officers allows you to acquaint yourself with the game's controls. You can choose between using basic square attacks or holding square for more powerful strikes. After this skirmish, Cloud reaches level 7, earning 18 EXP, 8 gil, and a potion, mimicking the original game.

Proceeding down the train station pathway and up the stairs, you confront more security officers. Here, you learn about the ATB system, which fills up to enable special abilities. Fill your ATB gauge by attacking an officer and then use a command like the Fire spell to finish them off with flair.

As you vault over the ticket gate, even more security officers emerge. This encounter provides a lesson on defense, with an emphasis on blocking and evading attacks. Employ R1 to defend against the officers, or use O to dodge their assaults. To maximize efficiency, target each officer from behind and defeat them swiftly, guarding against bullets with Cloud's bulletproof sword.

Upon ascending the stairs, you encounter your first treasure chest, containing two Potions, which restore health. While Potions are valuable, consider conserving them. Cure/Heal spells, available later in the game, offer an alternative method of healing. You can also sell Potions later for funds to acquire better equipment. On the opposite side of the room, you'll find orange and black barricades. Slash through them and open the chest to unveil two Grenades. Save these for future encounters with clusters of enemies or troublesome ranged bosses.

In the room's opposite corner, a balcony awaits. As you explore, you find a mako shard hidden behind boxes, replenishing the MP spent on the officers earlier. Afterward, proceed to the waypoint, break a box for another Potion, and engage in conversation with your team, receiving new instructions.

As you descend the stairs, you'll learn about target locking, a skill necessary for the upcoming fight against a formidable Guard Dog. It's vital to prioritize the Guard Dog as it poses a more substantial threat than the standard security officers.

Following the fight, you can explore the room to locate a chest containing an Ether, an item that restores MP. It's wise to conserve Ethers for challenging boss battles. The inevitable subsequent wave of enemies should begin with the defeat of the Guard Dog, allowing for a smoother takedown of the accompanying officer foes.

Continuing to follow Barret, you gain access to a powerful ally with a machine gun arm. This adds ranged firepower to your arsenal, ideal for dealing with Sentry Rays positioned above you. After dealing with them, you'll confront a Monodrive, which you can command Cloud to eliminate or switch to Cloud for the task.

Returning to the ladder, you slide down to reach the Mako Reactor level. Restoring health with Barret's Heal spell or Potions prepares you for a significant confrontation. You proceed to set the timer for the bomb's explosion. You can choose either a 20-minute or 30-minute timer. Opting for the shorter duration offers extra items, such as an Ether and Hi-Potion, without imposing a significant time constraint.

The climactic battle against the Scorpion Sentinel presents the ultimate challenge. The fight consists of several phases, each demanding a strategic balance between physical attacks and magic use while efficiently managing MP. The Scorpion Sentinel's Tail Laser attack is a potent threat, and seeking cover is imperative to evade its devastating power.

Following this intense battle, your next objective is to escape the reactor. Whether you have 20 or 30 minutes, you can complete this section in just three minutes if you move swiftly, eliminating any need to rush. You follow Barret to a ladder, where climbing up leads to a pair of Monodrives. Defeating them allows you to proceed.

Continuing your journey, you'll encounter a Sweeper, but you can bypass it and ascend the stairs. Facing more Monodrives, you can choose to avoid them, maintaining a focused pace. At the top of the stairs, Shock Troopers stand in your path, demanding combat. They are melee-oriented opponents, and Cloud's wide slashes and evasive maneuvers will help you defeat them. After defeating the troopers, pushing the elevator door button triggers a scene, culminating in a spectacular chapter conclusion in our Midgar saga.
