A Safer World Foundation documentary showcasing the amazing journey of healing of trauma survivors impacted by different degrees of conflict and violence that resulted in numerous deaths and loss of livelihoods.
For over two decades now, the middle belt region, including Kaduna have been impacted by different degrees of conflict and violence that have resulted in numerous deaths and destruction of property worth billions of Naira. More than 11, 000 people have been killed since the beginning of these conflicts. This number includes women, infant children, as well and youths and me.
The conflict has lest deep-rooted hatred, mutual suspicion, and mistrust, with an attendant eagerness and willingness for revenge. There are physical, emotional, psychological, and socio-economic setbacks in these communities. A lot of women are left widowed, so many children have been orphaned in the process while a lot of Men are left traumatized leaving them in states that can make them abusers in their own communities. An encounter with these victims, most of who are living in camps or with neighbor’s and have experienced very severe trauma underscores the urgent and necessary need for trauma consciousness and resilience building.
Worthy to note is that children of displaced families or those who have witnessed brutal killings, separation from their families, destruction of their homes or even disruption or their living pattern are also traumatized, and this creates a deep worry and concern
These are the situation of most communities in Southern Kaduna, especially those that share common border across the states, with particular focus on communities in Kajuru and Jema’a LGAs of the state where violence and threats of attacks against civilian populations, including individuals targeted based on their religions have been on the increase.
