Albany makes history with Good Cause Eviction law
The City of Albany making history this week by opting into a state law that gives tenants more rights.
In 2021, Albany was the first City to pass a local Good Cause Eviction law, later challenged in court, the court ruled to now allow it. On Monday, 14 Albany Common Council members voted yes to opt into the state's Good Cause Eviction law, the first City in the state to do so. New York enacted the law in April.
The Good Cause Eviction law will protect tenants from rent hikes and unfair evictions.
