Learning this 1 lesson helped me to finally lose 100+ pounds and keep it off for 10+ years.

The LAST thing you want to do when starting to make a positive change is to make things harder on yourself. When learning to eat healthier and improve my own food choices and lifestyle, there were some choices and behaviors I made that actually worked against me, and make it even harder to make a change.

So, here’s a common healthy eating mistake a lot of people make (I sure did!) and, more importantly, how to avoid it…

Mistake: Thinking all you need to do to lose weight is to cut out calories.

Seems simple enough…calories in versus calories out, right?

Not exactly.

Why this is a mistake: This means, you start drinking diet sodas, eat less overall, choose less nourishing, nutrient dense foods (because they’re too high in calories), and start significantly eating less than your body is used to.

Cutting calories and practically starving yourself is not a good way to lose weight because it's unrealistic that you're going to be able to continue a lifestyle where you're hungry and lacking energy all the time.

Not just that - your body is actually going to make changes in response to getting less calories in your diet and will, in turn, require less calories to function and survive. That means your metabolism will decrease, you’ll have less energy, and your body will start storing all the energy you’re actually eating just in case it needs it, rathe than burnin git for more energy.

While you may lose weight in the beginning, you'll most certainly put it back on after you get tired enough of living that way - and most people get tired of living this way — myself included — because it’s just awful to restrict to this level constantly.

Paying attention to the quality of your foods will take you much farther than just counting calories. And understanding the macro breakdown of the food you’re eating in order to run it like a machine will give you more energy and burn off that extra stored fat along the way. Plus, you’ll be a way happier, healthier human.
