History of the Bay Episode 73: Writing his first raps in 1982, Calvin T is a pioneer of Bay Area rap that is often left out of the history books. Coming out of Richmond, he met his rhyme partner Mack Magic Mike in juvenile hall and started recording his first tapes once he was released. As contemporaries of Too $hort and Freddy B, Calvin T and Magic Mike were early influences to the artists that followed like E-40, Mac Dre and Mac Mall. 40 even signed Calvin to Sick Wid It Records, but his album was never released. Calvin was introduced to the pimp game at age 13, and his rap career was derailed by multiple prison stints. On episode 17, we had Magic Mike tell their story and now we have Calvin T sharing his perspective in his most in-depth interview ever.
