In Sea of Conquest, mastering ship setups can be the key to securing victory. In today’s guide, we’ll focus on the bait ship strategy, particularly with the Scepter, and how it can help you win battles by diverting enemy attacks from your core damage dealers.
Why Use a Bait Ship?
In Sea of Conquest, Cutthroat damage is one of the most lethal forms of attack. When it hits a battleship, it can significantly reduce your fleet’s firepower. The bait ship's role is to absorb these Cutthroat attacks with high armor and aggro (threat level), allowing your other ships to continue dealing damage.
Aggro: Drawing Enemy Attacks
A ship's base aggro in Sea of Conquest is 100, and increasing it will improve the chances of drawing enemy attacks. While having the highest aggro doesn't guarantee that the enemy will target the bait ship, it improves the odds. This is key to keeping your core battleships alive.
The 4+2 Setup
A common fleet configuration is the 4+2 setup: four damage-dealing ships and two bait ships. This is especially effective for budget-conscious players.
In our case, we use:
Four damage dealers: Strategic ship, Cutthroat ship, a Burning & Drowning ship, and a mixed ship.
Two bait ships: Flagship and Scepter.
By employing two bait ships, we increase the chances of diverting enemy attacks. In one battle, our Flagship successfully drew the attention of Kartal, while Onimusha targeted the Scepter. Meanwhile, our heroes were able to focus on eliminating the opponent’s strategic ship, tipping the balance in our favor.
The Scepter: A Defensive Powerhouse
The Scepter is an S5 defensive ship, making it ideal as a bait. Its ultimate skill, Ironclad Defense, increases aggro by 40 and boosts armor by 8% every 8 seconds. This skill stacks up to 12 times, significantly enhancing the Scepter’s ability to draw attacks and survive.
When setting up the Scepter, prioritize armor and aggro over damage. Avoid skills like Tactical Decryption, which only reduce one type of damage, and focus on skills that boost survivability.
Choosing Heroes for Bait Ships
We recommend avoiding healers for bait ships since they tend to have lower attack power. Instead, choose heroes who boost armor and aggro. For our Flagship, we use Ahab and Obi, both excellent defensive heroes from S4.
For the Scepter, we selected Barnacle and Titus due to their defensive capabilities. In the gunner positions, Magnus and Agnes are ideal as they increase aggro. However, if you don't have Magnus, heroes like Wanda can serve as rage generators, adding versatility to the team.
Trinkets: Armor and Aggro Boosters
The right trinkets can make a huge difference in your ship's durability. We recommend the Golden Rudder, Eagle Shield, and Obi's exclusive trinket for both the Flagship and the Scepter. These trinkets boost both armor and aggro, which are vital for bait ships.
Ship Parts: Yamata and Guardian Sets
When it comes to ship parts, the Yamata and Guardian sets are your best options for bait ships. The Yamata set provides superior damage reduction, while the Guardian set offers an aggro boost. We prefer using the Guardian set on the Flagship since it already has a strong armor boost from Ahab and Obi.
Conclusion
A well-built bait ship like the Scepter, paired with the right heroes, trinkets, and ship parts, can significantly increase your chances of winning battles in Sea of Conquest. By drawing attacks away from your damage-dealing ships, you maintain the upper hand and control the battlefield. Don’t forget to try different setups and see what works best for you!
