On Saturday, September 14, 2019, Ottawa's brand new light rail system, O-Train Line 1 (also known as the "Confederation Line") opened the public for revenue service. Construction began in 2013 and did not complete until 2019, at a cost of $2.13 Billion. The light rail system was officially handed over to the City/OC Transpo from the contractors who built the system, Rideau Transit Group (RTG), on August 23, 2019 (original handover date was in May 2018, with the system opening in June 2018).

The Confederation Line was built by converting the previous Bus Transitway corridor to LRT between Blair Station and Campus Station (now called uOttawa Station), and the Transitway corridor between Lebreton Station (now Pimisi Station) and Tunney's Pasture Station. A brand new underground tunnel was built underneath the Downtown Core. This is Phase 1 of Ottawa's LRT project.

This is a series of video clips of the Alstom Citadis Spirit Trains arriving and leaving all stations on September 15, 2019, Day 2 of revenue service.
