Good work leads to promotions -- and promotions from development to management come with more than increases in responsibility. While you might get promoted because you've been a great developer, you'll need a new skill set to be a great manager.
During this session, Kat will talk about adjusting from life as a developer to life as a manager, including:
Avoiding the pacesetting leader trap.
Giving performance feedback that goes beyond code reviews.
Giving room to make mistakes (while mitigating the big risks).
Investing time in people, not projects.
This session is targeted toward new managers and developers considering management, by a former developer who made the leap and loved it.
Speaker Kat Kuhl
Formerly a Drupal developer in DC, Kat is now the Director of Backend Engineering at Adjust, a Berlin-based company that runs a mobile attribution and analytics platform. She's been coding since she was a kid and managing people since 2013. She now applies the management skills she learned running small development teams at agencies to managing large engineering teams at product-based companies. She currently lives in the UK with her partner and a slightly evil cat.
