You will need a quick-connect hose connector on your garden hose. Some hoses have them built in like this one in the video which is a Hozelock expandable hose.
Once the tap connector is on the outside tap, your hose connector on the hose should push straight on until it clicks into place.

For garden taps, always use quick-connect connectors. The tap will have a thread, typically 3/4" that enables you to screw a quick-connect hose connector to the tap.
