Alright today on REPAIRS101 I’ve got a 2011 SUBARU FORESTER with a broken taillight lens resulting from a liftgate strut that busted loose. And I'll show you what I did.
This episode of REPAIRS101 is sponsored by PRINCESS AUTO. You can get the toolboxes and the tools you need to fill ‘em at princessauto.com
So this is Quinn’s family car. You might recognize him from previous episodes. Links in the description.
You can see here that the strut was dislodged from the lift gate so long ago that it’s all rusted up.
Be sure and wear a face shield when you’re working with a rotary wire brush.
LUKE, I AM YOUR FATHER.
Now before you go and make fun of my welds you should know that I chose not to clean them off with a grinder because it’s such a tight space and I was afraid of doing more harm than good.
The taillight lens RE and RE was fairly straightforward.
I paid just under three hundred dollars CANADIAN for the taillight lens, shipping and taxes.
Hopefully your wires and bulbs are in good condition and can simply be swapped into the new unit.
These silver posts have balls on the end and they’re inserted into the green and white sockets.
Last but not least - check that the lights operate as they should. If they don’t - you’ve mixed up the wires.
