"Tarkus" - the masterpiece of ELP's second studio album, 1971. A 20-minute piece in seven parts written by Keith Emerson, with Greg Lake credited for the "Battlefield" section and contributions to "Stones of Years" and "Mass". It's the piece that nearly ended ELP, when Keith played it to Greg for the first time on the piano... According to the legend, he wasn't fond of it. But then it started growing on them! And we are grateful it did!!
Of course, it's not the same without Keith's organ and the fat Moog, Greg's bass and vocals, and Carl Palmer's drumming - but still a fascinating piece to play!
