Belmont Park's $455M overhaul: A first look at NY's future racing marvel
New York Racing officials tell me when the Belmont Park project is done, it will complete a sports and entertainment complex on Long Island that has the potential--alongside the Saratoga Racecourse--of creating the biggest one-two punch in the racing industry. I was given a first-hand look at the teardown going on there now with NYRA President and CEO Dave O'Rourke.
Right now, excavators are everywhere! Belmont Park is so big that when Marylou Whitney’s Birdstone upset Smarty Jones in the 2004 Belmont, the track jammed more than 120,000 people inside its gates!
