As violence and unrest broke out across Leeds on Thursday night, Harehills Green Party councillor Mothin Ali made a plea to rioters to stop.

Footage circulating on social media showed him telling a group of men 'this is our neighbourhood.' Ali told the me that there were children inside the house they were attempting to burn and that it was their community. 'You can't treat it like this,' he added.
Police said they were called to an address in the West Yorkshire city at 5pm on Thursday where they found an 'ongoing disturbance' involving agency workers and children. More people started to arrive and the agency workers and children were taken to a safe place
