Alibaba Begins Drone Deliveries In China
This drone delivery first was not made by Amazon.
Three Alibaba drones traveled over water to deliver boxes of fruit to the Meizhou Island. They were carrying nearly 30 pounds for three miles, taking just nine minutes to complete the delivery.
The drone service could cut delivery times to the island by half. Alibaba plans to use this in-house development to create a large fleet that would deliver food and medical supplies over water, with Alibaba serving nearly 420 million people in China.
Since other Chinese competitors of Alibaba's are already in the race, the skies in China might soon get crowded.
