In 2009, Kathryn Stockett's book The Help featured some African-American maids in Jackson, Miss., who worked in white homes during the early 1960s. Stockett's book was on The New York Times Best Sellers list for over 100 weeks and Octavia Spencer was named Best Supporting Actress in a 2011 film adaptation. Skip Rutherford, dean of the Clinton School of Public Service, will discuss for the first time an equally compelling civil rights silent protest that occurred in Little Rock during the mid-to-late 1950s.
