Food and Drink are critical to any fort, especially newly founded forts. While it might be tempting to spend a large chunk of your embark points to secure yourself an early supply of both, there is a way to get food and drink early on for much fewer embark points. It requires some work for your starting dwarves but this gambit asks but a little bit of industry in exchange for quite a bit of drink and cheese.
