Tayo Tayo Rin (MDG Anthem)
In September 2000, 189 nations signed the Millennium Declaration during the UN Millennium Summit. This Declaration is a commitment by nations to achieve the 8 Millennium Development Goals by 2015. These goals respond to the major development challenges of the world, to wit:
Goal 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2. Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3. Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4. Reduce child mortality
Goal 5. Improve maternal health
Goal 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7. Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8. Develop a Global Partnership for Development
As part of its information drive, the United Nations in the Philippines commissioned the production of the "The MDG Album" in 2005 to widen the awareness on the 8 MDGs. The song "Tayo Tayo Rin" is performed by various Filipino artists, and its lyrics is written by Chi Datu with music by Rico Blanco. Hereunder is the lyrics in Filipino:
