F1 testing is underway and it has been so good to see the new cars on track. Some of the cars look far better in the light of day than in the dark confines of the livery reveal event but obviously, all the attention has been on the technical changes to the cars. There are a lot of new ducts and miny wings, changes to suspension set ups and sidepod profiles and every piece will be picked over by the media like vultures with a corpse. As fun as it is to try and divine the meanings of Aston Martin’s new squiggly wing bits that are next to the cockpit or Mercedes strange lump in the nose cone, at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is lap times and we won’t know how they really stack up until the Australian Grand Prix. That doesn’t mean we can’t get an idea about who has made positive improvements and who has perhaps created a beast. Today, I’ll check all the happenings from the first day of pre-season testing and talk about the FIA meeting that saw members banned for opposing its president, so don’t go anywhere.
