Indie and Scottie: Thriving After Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS)
“I will never forget that the doctor said they looked perfect,” says Tara.
“They” were her twins, Indie and Scottie, and Tara’s doctor said this at her 20-week ultrasound. The next visit, though, was very different. Tara’s doctor diagnosed them with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which is a rare condition created by abnormal blood vessel connections in identical twins that creates imbalanced blood flow and circulation.
Tara and her twins needed two fetal surgeries because their TTTS was especially severe. Because the maternal fetal medicine specialists at our Colorado Fetal Care Center are so experienced and prepared for the unexpected, both surgeries were successful. And Indie and Scottie are now home with a world of possibilities ahead of them.
“You look at them now and nobody would ever guess that they had any issues,” says Tara.
