MSFS Tutorial Garmin G1000 Overview Part 1: Primary Flight Display

Hi. This is an in-depth look at the Garmin G1000 as implemented in MSFS and specifically the Cessna 172. It covers each of the physical controls and the primary display. This is part 1 of 2 parts. Doing all 3 of the panels in a single video would made a very long video so I am breaking it into two parts.

Part 2 that covers the audio panel and the MFD will be released after Asobo releases Sim Update 3 on Feb 23 2021 that is supposed to include fixes to the AFCS and the G1000. Currently, the MFT is severely restricted in terms of functionality but I have hopes that Asobo is going to add all of the missing maps and pages that I want to cover in part 2.

The AFCS functions are not part of this tutorial. You will not learn how to run the autopilot or do an ILS approach from this video. Adding topics such as these exceed the scope of this already long video.

The version of Microsoft Flight Simulator that was used for this video is 1.12.13.0

As a final comment here, I must admit that manipulating the knobs on the G1000 using a mouse is infuriating at best. Hopefully they improve this UI element.

I am running Windows 10 Pro with Bootcamp on a 2017 27" iMac. It uses a 4 core 4.2Ghz Core i7 processor with 40GB of RAM. My video card is the Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB of RAM and FS2020 is running on a dedicated high speed SSD connected via Thunderbolt 3.
