The Great Balloon Launch
As part of Project Strato in the Michigan Exploration Laboratory (MXL), students both at graduate and undergraduate levels unite to explore the stratosphere, demonstrate new technology, and conduct outreach to the public. Launches typically occur at the end of semesters or in the summer.
This particular balloon launch was a function of the subproject NEBP (Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project), a joint undertaking involving over 55 institutions from 38 different states. The other Project Strato subproject is SPEAR (Steerable Payload Extraction & Autonomous Recovery), aiming to steer balloon payloads to specific landing locations.
