In this step-by-step tutorial, I will show you how to create partitions and APFS volumes on your Samsung SSD T7 using the Disk Utility app on a Mac and how to delete a partition or a volume. The process of adding partitions or APFS volumes is the same whether you use a Samsung SSD T5, T7, T9, or another brand of SSD or HDD. I will use a Samsung SSD T7 and a MacBook Pro M1 running macOS Sonoma for this demonstration. Additionally, you will learn to enter the Reserve size and Quota Size for your APFS Volume.

One significant benefit of partitioning or adding APFS volumes is running multiple operating systems on the same drive, such as MacOS and Windows, or keeping different macOS versions on your external drive and switching between operating systems as needed. This flexibility is particularly useful for developers and users who require different environments for various tasks.

Another advantage is improved data organization. You can easily manage and locate your files by creating separate partitions or volumes for different types of data, such as work files, personal files, media, and backups. This also helps prevent data corruption, as issues in one partition do not affect others.
