On December 15, 2021, the new permanent Highway 417 westbound on-ramp Holly Acres Rd opened to traffic. The newly built on-ramp is located in between the existing overpass structure of the Highway 417 westbound lanes, and the new overpass structure for the LRT guideway (Stage 2 LRT as part of the O-Train West Extension Project)
Prior to the opening of this new on-ramp, from between mid-September 2021 and December 15, 2021, all traffic (including westbound buses leaving Bayshore Station to Kanata or Stittsville) entering Highway 417 westbound at Holly Acres Rd were temporarily using a small portion of the closed West Transitway between Holly Acres Rd and Moodie Drive as the on-ramp.
As a result of this new on-ramp, westbound buses exiting the West Transitway from Bayshore Station going towards Highway 417 westbound must make a left-turn to Holly Acres Rd, then make an immediate right-turn to the new on-ramp.
A few notes about this new on-ramp seen in this video:
Shortly after the opening of this ramp, some bus operators had difficulties executing the right-turn due to tight spacing between the two overpass structure, and the sharp turn associated
Based on observations, to properly make the right-turn onto the new on-ramp, buses when making the left-turn onto Holly Acres Rd when exiting the West Transitway must go to the far-left lane as possible, from there, buses must make the right-turn from the left-turn lane
