"Yorckscher Marsch" (aka "Marsch des Yorck'schen Korps") is a German military march composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in honor of the Prussian General Ludwig Graf Yorck von Wartenburg. (1808/1809)
East German version, performed by Zentrales Orchester der NVA/Central Band of the National People's Army during the Großer Zapfenstreich der Nationalen Volksarmee. (1989)
The Großer Zapfenstreich is an old German military tradition, where military musicians perform many historical songs, hymns, marches, fanfares as well as more contemporary pieces.
This was the last Großer Zapfenstreich performed by East German troops, not long after this footage was taken, the Berlin Wall fell.
