Good news! Instagram will prioritize photos over videos again in 2023, according to Adam Mosseri, Instagram's CEO, who stated this in a Q&A session on his IG Stories. This is good news for Instagram users like me, who prefer photos.
Mosseri said, “I think we were overfocused on video in 2022 and pushed ranking too far and basically showed too many videos and not enough photos. We’ve since balanced, so things like how often someone likes photos versus videos, and how often someone comments on photos versus videos, are roughly equal, which is a good sign that things are balanced.”
Mosseri emphasized that photos will still be a major aspect of the app, and finding the correct balance between photos and videos is crucial.
Instagram's shift towards prioritizing photos again is welcomed by users who have advocated for the app to stay true to its roots. Over the past two years, the increased presence of videos, especially Reels, has altered the overall atmosphere of the app. At times, it seems as if Instagram has strayed from its niche and is following current trends instead.
