Canada: Trudeau govt at risk, NDP's Jagmeet Singh withdraws support; opposition demands early polls
On September 4, 2024, Canada's New Democratic Party withdrew its support from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government. In a video posted on X, party leader Jagmeet Singh stated that he had 'ripped up' the supply-and-confidence agreement previously made with Trudeau's Liberal government. The agreement, made in 2022, had ensured the survival of Trudeau's minority government with the support of the NDP. However, Singh now accuses the PM of failing Canadians. When asked about the NDP retracting its automatic support, Trudeau stated that his government focuses on addressing the affordability crisis and climate change.
