Megalodons were the most gigantic prehistoric sharks to ever terrorize the world’s oceans. A megalodon's head alone was the size of a car and could grow to be about 50 feet in length. In addition to their length, they also weighed as much as 110,000 pounds. They could pretty much swim wherever they wanted and eat whatever they wanted. Megalodon babies were larger than most adult humans at birth. such a large baby would require a lot of energy from the mother
Scientists conclude that baby megalodons feasted on their unhatched siblings in the womb. They grew bigger and hungrier before their mothers ever gave birth. Oophagy or egg eating is a way for a mother to nourish its embryos for an extended period of time. The consequence is that only a few embryos per mother will survive and develop. The baby that survived would then be ready to ward off any ocean predators. A healthy appetite might have contributed to their life expectancy of 88 to 100 years
