A newspaper editor tries by all means to prevent his ex-wife, an expert reporter, from remarrying.

The main cast included Oscar-nominated actors Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell, an Ralph Bellamy. The film is an adaptation of the play The Front Page (1928) by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur.
After four months of absence, Hildy Johnson enters the offices of the New York newspaper The Morning Post, where she is one of the star reporters, to tell her boss, editor Walter Burns, that she is leaving the paper. The reason for her absence was, among other things, to get a divorce from Reno, from, of all people, Walter, who admits to having been a bad husband. Hildy divorced Walter largely because she wanted a more homey life, while Walter saw her more as an impulsive reporter than a subservient housewife. Hildy has also come to tell Walter that she is catching the afternoon train to Albany, where she is to be married tomorrow to stuffy insurance agent Bruce Baldwin, whose mother they will live with, at least for the first year. Walter doesn't want to lose Hildy, either as a reporter or as a wife, and if he does, he doesn't think Bruce is worthy of her. Walter does everything he can to at least delay Hildy and Bruce's trip long enough to convince Hildy to stay for good. His plan includes doing everything he can to put Bruce in a bad light, while dangling a big story under her nose, namely coverage of what the newspaper believes to be the unjust impending execution of convicted cop killer Earl Williams.
This film was selected in 1993 for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for its "cultural, historical or aesthetic significance". The director, Howard Hawks, is one of America's most celebrated and Oscar-winning filmmakers.
