"Level-3 AI" is HERE: Meet OpenAI's "Operator" Agent

OpenAI just launched "Operator," their first agentic tool and a glimpse into the future of AI agents.
This web-based assistant, part of a series coming in 2025, can perform tasks on your behalf within a browser, interacting with websites using mouse and keyboard emulation, similar to Anthropic's computer use API.
While currently limited to OpenAI pro users, and requiring user confirmation for actions, it demonstrates OpenAI's unique strategy of turning research into polished products, contrasting with the approaches of other AI labs like Google and Anthropic.
Despite current limitations like relying on screenshots and not being as fast as humans, "Operator" is a significant step as OpenAI focuses on user-friendly AI tools and continues its journey toward AGI, with more agent releases expected this year.
