What is the best bidding strategy for local businesses targeting only a 10-mile radius?" Again, bidding has no relevance to locations. Bidding is simply what you're willing to pay for a lead or how much you're willing to earn as a return on ad spend. So don't confuse yourself with what the best bidding strategy is, as bidding is just a tool. Max clicks, Maximize conversions, CPV, CPM, and all these are just the metrics you're bidding on. What you want to do is to be very creative with your offers for that local business. The hook. Why should they come to you, and why should they buy from you? That's what you want to think about.
You need to think about building up that brand. So I would say the best strategy for a local business is to run your ads everywhere, on every platform: search, display, video, Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitter, wherever you can go, because it's a very small radius of just 10 miles. So the search network will have limited traffic, but there's unlimited traffic on YouTube and the Google Display Network. This is where you want to build up that local brand so that the brand campaign starts to get traffic, and direct traffic should start to come through.
This is where you need to manage your client's expectations and tell them, "This is my game plan: to increase your brand campaign and your direct traffic." Why would you pay for your brand traffic if people know you? No, because you want to occupy that real estate at the top of Google. If your competitors aren't bidding on themselves, then bid on their name, get yourself above your competitors, and start pinching their traffic. This has nothing to do with bidding but all to do with the strategy. So I think the question should be, "What is the best strategy for local businesses?" And the best strategy for local businesses or any kind of business is to hit them everywhere, at every touchpoint. You need to be there so that you get the conversion when the customer is ready to buy from you.
