The simulation below shows what happens when a 12.7-mm-diameter aluminium sphere hits a 90-mm-thick aluminium block at 6800 m/s. Arbitrary Lagrange-Eulerian approach was adopted due to its capability to accommodate the severe deformation of the material and the Johnson-Cook constitutive material model was used. After many iterations, this was the best result as the exact grade of aluminium and boundary conditions were unavailable.
