On December 24, 1999, a plane from India with 176 passengers was hijacked by terrorists. The hijackers wanted to land the plane in Lahore, Pakistan, but the airport lights were off, so the pilot almost landed on a highway. After a lot of tension and failed rescue attempts, the plane was refueled in Dubai and then flew to Kandahar, Afghanistan. The Indian government eventually agreed to the hijackers' demands, which led to the release of the hostages. This incident showed serious problems with security and handling the situation.
