I've seen so many people, including myself, fall into the trap of thinking that we need to constantly improve ourselves in order to be happy and successful. But I'm here to tell you that even though this mindset can be great, it can also be very harmful.
It’s important to remember that you are already enough as you are, right here, right now. You don't need to lose weight, make more money, or achieve some sort of external validation to be worthy of love and respect. You are worthy simply because you exist 🌱
Of course, I'm not saying that you shouldn't strive to grow, learn and be healthy. But there's a difference between healthy self-improvement and toxic self-improvement. Healthy self-improvement comes from a place of self-love and acceptance. It's about exploring your passions, learning new skills, and taking care of your physical and mental health because you want to feel good, not because you feel like you have to in order to be accepted by others.
Toxic self-improvement, on the other hand, comes from a place of self-hatred and shame. It's about constantly comparing yourself to others, needing to “show them”, setting unrealistic expectations, and punishing yourself for not meeting them. It's about never feeling satisfied with who you are and always feeling like you're falling short 😮💨
So why do we fall into the trap of toxic self-improvement? There are a lot of factors at play, but I think a big one is the culture we live in. We're bombarded with messages telling us that we're not good enough as we are and that we need to buy this product or achieve this goal in order to be happy. Social media only amplifies this, with people posting their perfectly curated lives and making it seem like everyone else has it all together except for us.
But here's the truth: everyone struggles. Everyone has insecurities and flaws, me included of course. And the people who seem to have it all together are probably just better at hiding their struggles than you are. So let's stop comparing ourselves to others and start accepting ourselves for who we are. Let's stop seeing ourselves as projects to be fixed and start seeing ourselves as whole, complete human beings.
In this video, I give you tips on how to do this. Hope you like it! 😊
