In the reflection phenomenon making the rounds on TikTok, a user holds an object with a piece of paper underneath it against a mirror in such a way that the paper is blocking the mirror’s ‘view’ of the object. The user then pans the camera over to the side, and is shocked to see the obscured object become visible in the mirror. Since TikTok user Bailey Caviness first posted about it asking “How does the mirror know that that’s there?”, countless others have stitched their attempts and reactions. While some remain perplexed, many have pointed out that there’s a simple explanation: the reflection of light.
