So this one was killing me.
I have been working with Large textured game environments recently in Maya 2018.
Maya was crashing when I did an unhide on all objects in my scene.
So, after a bit of research and help from the guys at Autodesk, the answer for me to set a maximum texture resolution.
Go to Renderer/Viewport 2.0 options, and alter the Resolution to some thing like 256 worked for me.
