Greyhound Bus Lines, like any bus company is what's known as a common carrier and what that means is that they transport people from place to place for hire. As such, under Texas law they have a heightened responsibility to their passengers. As an example, if you and I are driving a car and we have a passenger next to us we have what's called a duty to exercise ordinary care not to hurt the person. Well, with bus companies it's different. They have a heightened duty to exercise the utmost duty of care to the passengers. This extends to when a passenger is actually riding on a bus, when a passenger is boarding a bus or getting off the bus or even in the company waiting facility.
