Summary of the checkmate technique:
1. If the opponent's king is on the edge, cut him along the edge with your queen so he can't leave. Then, you can chase his king with your own king. When your king is close enough to his, you can move your queen right in front of his king, checkmating him. Your king needs to support your queen.
2. If the opponent's king is not on the edge, move your queen somewhere close to his king, trapping him in an imaginary "box". You can always make the box slightly smaller every move until he reaches the edge. Your king is not necessary in this phase, but it could be used to help push the opposing king further back.
