TCC Master Class: Igniting Goal Setting with Emerging Readers
Readers make sense of and react to texts based on their own prior knowledge and experiences. Reading is personal. Reading goals should be personal as well. Many times students simply don’t understand what they are supposed to be thinking and practicing when they read. Listen in to learn some of the strategies teachers across the country are using to change HOW students are reading.
Starting with the goal of students being ready and able to independently understand, learn from, and enjoy as many interesting texts as possible, we will explore:
-How students can set personalized, long-term reading goals.
-A structure for setting intentions and short-term reading goals with students.
-How to use a powerful tool for transferring and monitoring goals
