More than 50,000 nurses are walking out of hospitals across NSW today despite the Industrial Relations Commission ruling the action illegal over concerns about patient safety.
A large group has amassed outside Premier Chris Minns' electoral office in Sydney which is expected to last an hour and a half.
Rallies are scheduled across NSW to last 12 and a half hours in 16 separate rallies in locations including Coffs Harbour, Gosford and Albury.
The main demand from NSW nurses is a 15 per cent pay rise over one year.
In response, the government has offered a 10.5 per cent rise over three years.
