Mizoram was previously part of Assam 1972 as a small district, when it was carved out as a Union Territory. Mizoram has the highest concentration of the tribal people among all the states in India. 95% people of the Mizoram are tribal. The most dominate ethnic groups are Mizos. It is a Christian majority state after Nagaland.
They follow Jhum cultivation i.e. nothing but shift and burn agricultural cultivation method which leads to the poor yield. There were some historical factors and government ignorance to their regions lead to emergence of insurgent movements in Mizoram. Please go through the lecture for more information.
