Emmy nominated boutique visual effects studio Rocket Science (RSVFX) partnered with legendary Director Tim Burton and Show Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to help recreate the iconic ‘Thing’ character from Wednesday.
The RSVFX team, led by VFX Supervisor John Coldrick and VFX Producer Kayden Anderson, will present how the disembodied appendage ‘Thing’ was brought to life utilizing Foundry’s Nuke and Nuke Studio. The exclusive session will also cover the creation of Scorpio-pet, CG fire and other FX simulations. The team will walk through creative methodology, pipeline, technology utilization, and challenges that were overcome to deliver the groundbreaking show.
Production VFX Supervisor Tom Turnbull will join in to provide a unique perspective on the collaboration.

Tom Turnbull:
Tom Turnbull brought the visual effects, including the iconic 'Thing' to life in the global hit series WEDNESDAY, helmed by legendary filmmaker Tim Burton for Netflix. Tom is a versatile VFX Supervisor with extensive experience directing visual effects filmed around the world. His 30 years+ of experience spans the gamut of digital effects, from miniatures to bigatures and historical settings to futuristic landscapes. Turnbull has specialized knowledge in Motion Control, Motion Capture, Miniatures, VFX Element Photography and 2nd Unit Directing. A two-time BAFTA recipient for Best Visual Effects - ITV’s mini-series TITANIC and BBC’s THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS, Tom is also a four-time Canadian Screen Award winner - CRIMES OF THE FUTURE (Serendipity), TERRY (CTV), SHATTERED CITY: THE HALIFAX EXPLOSION (CBC), and THE ARROW (CBC). Additionally, he holds three Emmy nominations - Fox’s FRINGE, HAVEN and THE PATH to 9/11. Tom's credits also include the epic video game adaptation HALO S1 (Paramount+) and Amazon smashing hit THE BOYS S2 written by Eric Kripke.
John Coldrick:
John is passionately focused on how to best visually express a story. With over 35 years of experience as a Digital Artist - Animator, Compositor, CG and VFX Supervisor, John has garnered an Emmy nomination for Best Visual Effects for HANNIBAL (NBC), a Canadian Screen Award (CSA/Gemini) for Best Visual Effects, THE ARROW (CBC) and a CSA nomination for his work on the TV series COPPER (BBC). Additional credits include Tim Burton’s streaming hit sensation WEDNESDAY (Netflix), THE BOYS S2 written by Eric Kripke, six seasons of THE EXPANSE (Amazon), as well as features, DOLPHIN TALE 2 (Warner Bros.) and THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES (Sony).
Kayden Anderson:
Kayden is an experienced producer and emerging VFX Supervisor. Since joining Rocket Science in 2015, Anderson has contributed to several projects for both film and television, including David Cronenberg’s CRIMES OF THE FUTURE, for which his work earned a 2022 Canadian Screen Award, Achievement in Visual Effects. As a queer and trans filmmaker with an MFA in Documentary Media, Anderson’s passion for film and authentic storytelling drives his work in the world of visual effects. Anderson brings his proven record as a VFX producer dedicated to artistic integrity and creative problem solving into the role of VFX Supervisor. Anderson’s other credits include Tim Burton's coming of age comedy streaming hit WEDNESDAY (Netflix), three seasons of THE EXPANSE (Amazon), MURDER MYSTERY 2 (Netflix) and INTO THE BADLANDS (AMC).
