Setting and respecting boundaries is an important key to maintaining healthy relationships. Many people struggle with either not setting boundaries for themselves, or not respecting others’ boundaries. Boundaries are crucial. Once boundaries are crossed discomforts are ushered in to relationships. Boundaries are clear guidelines that help you define what you are comfortable with and how you would like to be treated by others. Most boundaries are violated when you are forced to say YES when all you wanted to say was NO. Therefore most boundaries can be safely guarded and protected by practicing assertiveness. Assertiveness is not about being pushy or aggressive. It’s stating your preference, liking or choice so that your boundaries are well defined to the other person.
